Blog about Gemstones
If you want to learn more about gemstones, check out the Gemwise Blog, written by Richard Wise, author of "Secrets of the Gem Trade: The Connoisseur's Guide to Precious Gemstones
".
I believe that people who love jewelry - whether buyers or makers - can never know too much about the materials that go into jewelry, so I love resources like this.
Thanks for the book reference. I’ll definitely check it out. I’ve always been interested in different stones..and it seems like there are new ones all the time. At least, that’s how it seems to me..but I’m not a jewelry maker. I recently stumbled upon this one artist named Ann Sportun..what caught my eye were these really brightly colored stones with a lot of clarity and the store owner told me they were garnets! I had no idea garnets came in such different colors. Maybe I’m just that clueless. I’d like to learn more about it though. I guess that shop, altered space gallery, is the only place i can get Ann Sportun in LA. I think you might also be interested to see her stuff since you’re in the know and probably like checking out what’s around. go to alteredspacegallery.com to see what I’m talking about. The garnet rings are called “mosaic stack” rings in the picture.
