fused argentium pendant

I just can’t decide if this fused piece is finished or not. It is scraps of Argentium sterling silver with a freshwater pearl dangle. I actually did the fusing months ago, and wasn’t sure what to do with the resulting piece of metal. Yesterday at my studio, I decided to drill two holes – one to add a bail and one to add a pearl dangle – and this is the result. I can’t decide if I love it or hate it.

What I like about it: the industrial look of the metal in contrast with the pearl, the texture of fused metal, the fact that the sheet was a scrap leftover from a pierced piece I made and the wire bits and granules were also recycled from other projects.

What I’m not sure about: I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I feel that the piece could be a lot stronger with some very minor modifications – if only I could decide what those modifications were.

Fused Pendant – Finished or Not? Good Question!

Its a Beautifully Unique Piece, and a Good Question too! Myself I’m undecided… So Your Not alone. Maybe some POP Could be added by adding some Luster and Shine. Weather adding high shine to your Silver or maybe even adding a Faceted Gem! Still Undecided. Art is in the Eye of the Beholder and the Love of the ART!

Thanks for the feedback! I wore this piece over the weekend and got several compliments, so I’m feeling better at least about the overall design. I don’t think adding a faceted stone is feasible, but I might try polishing the silver to a higher shine – and I’ll definitely work on a few more pieces with a similar feel. That often helps me figure out what I liked about an idea in the first place so that I can emphasize those qualities in my finished pieces.

I like the dull look to the silver. You could consider fuseing a couple pieces of wire on it off the left side, creating the overall outline of a rectangle or square… but I’ve seen loads of art pieces that relied on the off-balance approach, it’s just that I’m a symetrical person by nature.
