What size drill bit do I need?

If you are drilling holes in metal so that you can make wire rivets, it is important to make the hole the same size as the wire. So, with drill bit sizes having a completely different numbering system from wire gauge, how do you know? I did a little research, and this is what I found out. For 16g wire, you can use a 1/16th inch bit - not sure what that number is, but I've used a bit this size with 16g wire, so I know it does work. For 18g wire, you can use a #59 bit. For 20g, use a #67 bit. For 22g, use a #71 bit. For 24g, use a #75 bit. I plan to buy bits in all these sizes so I can test this out myself. I'll keep you posted. Update, as of 1/19/09: couldn't find exact sizes at hardware store, bought a few anyway. I like drilling tiny holes, and I'm not making rivets for my current project so it doesn't matter if the size is exactly right....
