Was reading Modish BizTips and ran across a list of popular blogs related to indie crafts. This got me thinking, although I hate asking for press (so much so that I don’t really do it), I love getting comments on my own blog posts, so…why not check out all the blogs on that list and leave them comments?
Leaving relevant, friendly comments on blogs is a good way to meet people (bloggers) without being pushy, if you are a little shy. Although I’m not particularly shy most of the time, when it comes to promoting myself, I don’t want to feel like I’m imposing or bothering anyone. So why not just be friendly and give some comment love? If you need a quick promotional idea for your own blog, give it a shot! Bloggers love to get the non-spam kind of comments, and you might make a new friend or get a little traffic back to your own blog, website, or online shop.
It can’t hurt, and it only takes a minute to leave someone a comment. Just make sure it’s about what they wrote about, not about you!

You know, I’m like you in that I don’t like being pushy about promoting myself which obviously is not a good thing in our position. I’ve heard that about commenting on blogs. One thing people should remember though is that it should be relevant to the post, not just using it as a way to self-promote. Going to check out your list, thanks for that info.

That’s a really good idea. It also helps build your SEO rankings – and introduces you to other people who are commenting.

Yes, good point, always leave RELEVANT comments, don’t spam blogs – most bloggers will delete comments that are off-topic.

As one of those “shy” people and new bloggers, less then 90 days, so far I find comments to be encouraging and helpful and I’ve yet to see spam. Since I’m a new jewelry artist I generally ask for input on a posting of one of my pieces so I might learn. By the way, I find your blog informative and look forward to reading your list of blogs! Thank you!

Thanks Millie – keep blogging, and you’ll start to get comment spam, it’s inevitable. Most of the time, I think the spam comments are generated by “bots” rather than people, but occasionally I do get comments that seem to be written by someone but have nothing at all to do with anything I wrote about. Off to check out your blog, since I don’t think I’ve seen it before!
