Shazzabeth
I have a new featured artist! Shazzabeth makes gorgeous wire wrapped and chainmaille jewelry:
How did you choose your shop name?
Amalgamation of my first and middle names Sharon Elizabeth.
What is your medium of choice?
Primarily sterling silver, combining with gemmies and/or swarovski crystals. Tools - bent nose and chain nose for the maille, and chain nose for the wirework.
Tell me a little bit about your creating process.
Free flow wirework can start as an idea that develops as I start working on the piece. Will often have a picture in my head (no good at putting on paper) - but the design can develop as I'm creating. Maille is usually more fixed, but I now like to look for ways to develop the maille designs rather than just a straight chain.
Do you have any advice for people learning your craft?
Practise and perseverance. With maille perseverance is the key to learning new weaves - determine its not going to beat you! With wirework - get some cheaper wire (copper etc. ) and practise!
Do you have any business advice for crafty entrepreneurs?
Be realistic in your expectations, try to be organised, and learn how to take good photos - I still struggle with that one. Above all, create for yourself and then try to sell, rather than trying to create what you think will sell - you have to love what you are doing or it will just become another chore!
