Posted by Administrator on Aug 30, 2006
The necklace is currently in Sequim, Washington, and will be heading out for a ladies outing with Illaya and friends…from there it will be traveling to Texas to visit Bobbi Chukran, who has been writing about the project in her blog.
Collaborative Charm Necklace
Posted by Administrator on Aug 23, 2006
For the past few months, I’ve been collaborating with a talented group of artists - both jewelry makers and artists who normally work in other mediums - on a collaborative charm necklace, which will be auctioned off to a charity working on breast cancer research.
Before the necklace is auctioned off, everyone who participated (by contributing a charm they designed and created) is taking a turn wearing the necklace to a special event.
Cyndi, of Mazel Tov! Jewelry Treasures, organized this project. She also compiled all of the charms into a beautiful necklace, and started the necklace on its journey. First stop Lowell, Massacusetts for an art quilt show. Read about it in Cyndi’s blog. She also has a picture of the necklace that shows all the charms. (Mine is on the left side of the necklace, up near the neckline - it’s a small pendant, really, in the style of the freeform pendants I make with silver wire and pearls).
After the necklace left Cyndi, it headed to southern California to Wendy of Indigo Skye Bead Fashions. Wendy took the necklace up to Seattle on her vacation. Read about it in her blog. Tomorrow, the necklace heads off to its next destination! I’ll update the story of the necklace as it makes its rounds all over the US.
Great Pearl Article

I found this great article about pearls while checking my RSS reader this morning.
I’ve written about pearls and explained much of the same material before, but I really like the way this article is written. The analogies really help it make sense, even if you didn’t know anything about cultured vs. natural and saltwater vs. freshwater pearls before.
Carnival of Creators #12 - August 10, 2006
Posted by Administrator on Aug 10, 2006
I am hosting the August edition of “Carnival of Creators”, a rotating blog showcasing blog posts about creativity, art, and craft. Last month’s carnival was hosted at Seafoam Woodturning, a blog by woodworker Derek Andrews. Here is this month’s eclectic selection of links on creativity, art, and even the use of creativity in the business world.
Liz Strauss writes an article titled ‘10 Reasons Creative People Make Us Crazy’ for the Successful and Outstanding Blog(gers) about the business world starting to value creativity, and summarizes traits of creative people as described by Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.
Serena Fenton writes in her blog, Layers of Meaning, about a video on City & Guilds textile course from the point of view of one student, Felicity Clarke.
Paul Dorell gives artists tips on inexpensive photography.
The Intrepid Art Collector’s August bulletin board of artist exhibitions has been posted.
Death and Taxes: a well written story of dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Excerpts from a memoir about growing up Mormon. This blog entry also has info on a ‘link park’ the author is starting on her site.
Article on the power of stereotypes and how it relates to doing well as a small business.
Interview with Mr. Kim, a young artist, writer, and entrepreneur.
Show Updates

I’ll be at the Sausalito Art Walk tomorrow evening (August 9). Stop by if you’re in the area - there are galleries open and artists exhibiting on the street. It’s a lot of fun.
The ActivSpace Arts and Crafts Fair is also coming up very soon, on August 26th and 27th at 2703 7th Street in Berkeley. Hopefully we’ll get some nice weather for this outdoor event. Last year it was sunny and beautiful, and of course there is always a lot of great art and craft work to see. It’s never too early to start Christmas shopping!
Glue Tip
Posted by Administrator on Aug 2, 2006
Don’t use E6000 to glue a rubber cord into a metal cord end. I discovered yesterday that it doesn’t really work.
My plan at this point is to try using resin or one of the 2-part epoxy glues, like devcon. When I figure out what works well, I’ll post the results.
More on creativity

Thanks to Karen Hung, of KH Metalwork for pointing me to this article:
The article is full of links to articles on creativity, some of which are really interesting. At least one was the result of typing “creativity slump” into Google and hitting the “I Feel Lucky” button. Another has a downloadable free ebook on creativity. Lots of reading material for anyone, jeweler or not, who is interested in creativity!
