Fine Silver Sculpture
These intricate fine silver pendants are sculpted from very thin, delicate wire using a torch flame. Loose forms were hand-sculpted, then heated just to their melting point to achieve a look that mimics melting ice. I call this method of creation, which is really an exaggerated form of fusing, 'fire sculpture' and these are the first pendants in a series of organic looking sculpted jewelry from fine silver.
Each piece of fire-sculpted jewelry is unique, sculpted and fired by hand. The small pendant shown above (second image) is the first successful prototype, including a fused bail that is as much a part of the design as it is a functional element. It is shown hanging from a silver neckwire, but could just as easily be attached to an earwire or pin finding, or hung on a more traditional silver chain. The first pendant on this page features beautiful freshwater pearls set into open spaces in the frame using cold connections. It measures about 1 1/2 inches tall, and can be worn reversed as well - the back features a dark gray freshwater pearl and an intricate tubular structure.
